Cafeteria Plan

A “cafeteria plan” is a system that allows individuals to select options freely from a menu of various healthcare services and use them with points they have acquired.

About the Cafeteria Plan

Pursuant to the Health Insurance Act, the Health Insurance Society provides health activities such as health education, health consultations, health examinations, and other events and courses planned by the Society to maintain and improve the health of insured persons and dependents. To avoid imbalances in the provision of such services to users, the Society uses a Cafeteria Plan for certain health activities to enable access to services for a wide range of insured persons.
The Cafeteria Plan is a system under which insured persons and dependents can choose from a menu of health activities and receive assistance for related costs from the Society (Cafeteria Points). Members are encouraged to use the Cafeteria Plan to prevent disease and to improve their health.

Cafeteria Points

Each insured person is awarded Cafeteria Points (one point is worth one yen) semiannually (on April 1 and October 1). Each insured person can review his or her points under “Point Usage” on the Society website. (Persons whose employment began between dates on which points are awarded will receive pro-rated points based on the number of months employed.)

Notes on using the Cafeteria Plan

  • The Cafeteria Plan allows insured persons and dependents to choose the services they want. While it is easy to use and available 24 hours/day, we encourage each individual to choose the items under the plan carefully and to make the best use of the products and services they choose.
Note that the Health Insurance Society will not provide any compensation for accidents, damage, or other problems resulting from use of the plan.
  • You are entitled to use the Cafeteria Plan only while you qualify as an insured person or dependent. For services such as complete check-ups and use of lodges, the date of use is the actual date on which the service was used, not the date the appointment or reservation was made. For purchases of products such as household medical supplies and health supplies, the date of use is the date of purchase application. Note and comply strictly with the deadlines for use. Note that you will be billed for the costs incurred if it is discovered that you used these services after your eligibility expired or that a person other than an insured person or dependent used these services.
